Too early for christmas?

The past few days have become awfully festive for me which is odd seen as I haven’t been this excited for Christmas (especially this early) for years!

Yesterday I watched the first Christmas film of 2016 for me which was my favourite The Polar Express. This then inspired me to create my Christmas 2016 playlist on spotify eep exciting times!!

I’ve turned on my light up Christmas tree decoration next to my bed and the Christmas film collection has been dusted and removed from the shelves. I’m thinking of doing Christmas themed posts for the first 24 days of December because I’m so excited (have I mentioned how excited I am?)

Me and Amy had our first Christmas costa drinks at sixth form goday with the new super cute cups. We both had a mint hot chocolate, we both highly recommend you try them!

Yes, I’m fully aware that it is mid November but who doesn’t like to be festive? Michael Bublé is playing  in the background right now so I’m  content with life right now, I don’t care how early it is.

I just wanted to share my excitement, if you happen to be as excited as I am (have I mentioned how excited I am?) or if you think I’m a complete saddo, leave a comment!!

here’s the link to my Christmas playlist on spotify: Christmas playlist 2016

Enjoy. Till next time,

My favourite drugstore, affordable makeup.

I am absolutely sick of watching makeup tutorials and reading blog posts on ‘how to achieve this makeup look’ that only include high end and very expensive products. I come from a little village in the North East of England and moneys tight around here, I am currently an unemployed student who can hardly afford the bloody bus fare never mind Chanel or Dior makeup products.

Boots is my go to for makeup and I do tend to stick to what I know in there. I buy a lot of makeup products from the same brands and repurchase products that I like and I want to be more adventurous but that’s hard to do when you don’t have the money to risk it. I decided to show you some of my favourite (and good value for money) products from the drugstores for anyone who may be in a similar situation to me and needs to have faith in a product before spending, enjoy 🙂

Rimmel London wake me up concealer £5.49, L’Oreal Paris true match foundation £9.99

These two products are my holy grail!! Although I rarely wear foundation now (because foundation + travelling on public transport + sixth form etc doesn’t mix well with foundation for me), I always wear this concealer when I leave the house. Both are super easy to blend and have good, medium wear coverage. The concealer is extremely good for dark circles and blemishes, its by far my most repurchased makeup product, I can’t imagine me loving another any more than I love this. The foundation is a great base for makeup and feels super light so you barely even realise its there but still gives good coverage.

Rimmel London stay matte pressed powder £3.99

This is by far the best drugstore powder I’ve ever tested, again it is one of my most repurchased products. This powder is enough on its own to give a light to medium coverage but I mainly use it to set foundation and concealer, paired with these it gives your skin a really velvety feel and very rarely needs topped up, it lasts me all day at sixth form.

Rimmel London lasting finish soft colour blush 020 pink rose £3.99, Maybelline master sculpt 02 medium/ dark £6.99

I use this for blush and contour on my cheek bones. What I love about these products is how long they last. I’ve had both for over a year and used both almost every day, both still have loads of product left and have really nice colours. The blush is a beautiful colour and is nicely pigmented so that a little goes a long way. The contour is super easy to use andd very little product is needed to give a good effect (seriously only use a little, its super pigmented!!). Overall, I would recommend these 100% especially for beginners as they are so super easy to use.

Maybelline baby skin instant pore eraser primer £7.99

Apologies for the bad picture, I thought it was in focus. This is amazing, like the others it lasts super long. I’ve been using this one since June and there’s still a long way to go, and this is used every day. Sometimes I use this with no other makeup to even out my skin and get rid of pores, it does far more than that. It makes my skin look and feel flawless and is an amazing base for foundation, my makeup lasts all day with this on. For a cheaper product this works wonders.

Rimmel London brow this way eyebrow gel £3.99, Soap and Glory brow archery £10

These products are my go to for my eyebrows, both are super easy to use and give long lasting results. I apply the brow archery first, I use the pencil side of it first, filling any sparse areas of my eyebrows and giving a faint outline to them. I then use the felt tip/ tint side to draw the ends of my eyebrows, elongating them slightly and giving them a more precise finish. This is my favourite eyebrow product, my only concern is that the felt tip end can dry out easily so it doesn’t last quite as long as other products. I use brow this way afterwards to smooth down any rogue hairs and neaten them up slightly, some days this is needed more than others.

IMG_4897[1].JPGMaybelline lash sensational mascara £7.99 , Soap and Glory supercat eyeliner £6

I was genuinely surprised when I first tried this mascara, I didn’t think it would work very well at all but it works incredibly well and I prefer it other high end mascaras that I’ve tried in the past. Lots of volume, length and it doesn’t lose its shape throughout the day. The eyeliner is a felt tip, mainly because I’m useless at applying it and gen liners are my worst nightmare. This is really easy to apply (even I can do it and I’m useless!) It may take me a while to even out because of my jittery hands but the product itself is amazing and good quality for money, well worth the investment.

No7 eyeshadow palette £10

Unfortunately this doesn’t have a specific product title so i don’t know exactly what it’s called but the No7 eyeshadows have great pigmentation and are super easy to blend so I recommend them all anyways. This specific palette was a gift for Christmas and with it creeping up to us once again I’ve whipped this back out and the warm colours and shimmer is appearing once again. I love this palette a lot so if you find any similar please let me know! This is a really nice alternative to the really expensive ones from places like Urban Decay and probable better quality for money.

Rimmel London lasting finish by Kate Moss 107 £5.49 , Bourjois Rouge edition velvet 10 don’t pink of it £8.99

107 is a really nice dark red lip especially for Autumn and Winter, I love it for a night out or a day in town with friends. It is a little drying so chapstick should be applied before and after wearing it but the colour is lovely and lasts a long time, definitely worth trying out. The Bourjois liquid lipstick is amazing, the colour is a super subtle pink and the product itself leaves your lips feeling super velvety and soft, no chapstick needed (in fact I think I used this as chapstick one time when I was desperate!) Both are lovely colours and products which in the future, I hope to try more shades of. For sure worth the money, both are pretty cheap.

Hope you enjoyed this, if you try any out or have any other suggestions please leave a comment below, as I said before, all products mentioned for £10 or less and are all great quality so if you’re not sure whether or not to try some of this stuff out, I say go for it!

Till next time,

How to clean a beauty blender.

The last thing you want to happen to you on a cold, early morning is for your bedroom light to pop.. Welcome to my life. Luckily I had some extra time this morning to get ready (thank the lord for late starts at sixth form) and so I took my makeup across the hall to the bathroom which had a working source of light.

Whilst I was in there I decided to wash (or at least attempt) my trusty Real Techniques beauty blender sponge.

Easier said then done.

I attempted to get some of the foundation and concealer out of it by just squeezing it under running water but it didn’t exactly work. I got very messy hands, the water scolded my skin and my sponge swelled to the size of a freaking orange. I had a lot of product left in the sponge but I decided it was best to stop there before I ripped it. You see I don’t have an en suite or a source of water in my bedroom where I do my makeup each morning, so I very rarely wash it, mainly because of time limits but partially because i can’t be bothered. Safe to say it was this morning that made me realise the importance of regularly washing your makeup brushes and sponges.

When I had some spare time I searched on google to find someone who had had the same problems as me, so that I felt a tad less like a twat and I found a few don’t worry (we aren’t alone). I saw a lot of gag worthy pictures of mouldy beauty blenders and ones that had far too much product in them and that was when I decided 1- to stop searching for mouldy beauty blender pictures, and 2- to try a method of cleaning mine when I got home.

Luckily I have younger siblings and baby products seem to be gentle yet effective enough to clean anything makeup related. I grabbed some Johnsons baby wash which is available at drugstores and also supermarkets at a cheap price and added s little to a bowl of warm water. I added enough that there were a few bubbles and mixed it in to the water until you could feel the product in the water (if that makes sense? basically when I took my hand out the water I could feel the soap on my hands). I then used my previous squeezing method until the makeup started to come out. Do not squeeze the sponge too hard or it will rip, I learned that the hard way with my first one. When most of the makeup was out and the sponge returned to its orange sized form, I got as much water as possible out by hand, set it on a towel and left it for a few hours by a partially opened window (to air dry it). Do not put it in an enclosed space like a makeup bag or drawer when its wet because apparently that’s how the bacteria grow which causes mould. After a while, mine took around and hour, it should return to its normal size and should feel almost fully dry. Try to keep it out in open space until its fully dry just in case, beauty blenders ain’t cheap.

That’s all I did, simple I know but if anyone else was struggling with this issue then I hope I could be of some use with this post. Now its time for me to actually take off my makeup, which may I add is the worst task in the world, and return to watching how to get away with murder wooo. Goodnight.

Till next time,

A new start.

Three months have passed since my last post, I’m very sorry.

This year has been the hardest year of my life so far. I’ve been working and thinking non stop since January and I haven’t taken much time off to actually look after myself. I’ve started year 13, the last year of school before University and boy Joe it’s hard. I’m up to my neck in coursework and mock exams, my social life has gone out the window and my health has gone downhill pretty sharpish. Deadlines here, open days there, I’m tired! Really, really tired!!

This is a new start for me. From now until new years I will be working on improving my life, taking things slowly and learning how to cope with a fast paced and jam packed lifestyle. By new years I want to be ready to start a fresh page and get in to the spirit of University.

The new start begins here with this blog. I love it, it’s like my little child and even if no one ever reads it, I want it to look back at later in life. Blogging is such a great invention and not something that I want to stop any time soon so look out for more frequent posts, this time I promise it will happen!

I’m currently trying to juggle 3 A- levels in English Language, Media and Religious studies, two of which contain coursework and on top of that I’m doing EPQ. To add to that I’m learning to drive (just passed my theory test wooo!), I’m waiting for offers from 5 universities and I’m dealing with mental health and life issues. I have no spare time and that really takes a toll on you, make up free and comfy clothes days are becoming the norm but I honestly couldn’t care less, gives me an extra 15 mins in bed.

I’ll be doing multiple posts on whats going on in my life because I don’t want to offload everything in to this post. Its been 3 months what the hell I actually can’t believe it, the time has flown by! My holiday was great by the way and we did end up at Disneyland so that’s a win, videos from that trip will be linked here.

Lastly, I’m really working on improving the layout of my blog so if anyone knows some little tips that would be greatly appreciated. As always, my social media is open for feedback or just for a chat, I would love either.

Till next time,

Meeting YouTubers – My Experience

Monday 27th June 2016

Dear Diary,

So over the past 4 years I have been watching YouTube religiously, more than TV! I started by watching pranksters such as the Janoskians (a personal fave) and then moved on to the likes of O2l and Joe Sugg in the later years. I think YouTube is amazing and the entertainment creators have made themselves a part of a new internet generation that really have changed the world and the media within it. I would LOVE to start a YouTube channel, I’ve wanted to for years and if I can get permission, I would love to start this Summer. The most amazing thing is getting to meet some of your favourite creators and be able to tell them how they’ve affected your life. I’ve been lucky enough to see some of my favourite YouTubers in person and I will continue to meet more in the future when possible. Yes they may not be able to sing, dance or act (some of them can though) but they can still make an audience laugh, cry and feel all the feels with their videos, that’s why they are unique and I love them for it, although I don’t think my parents will ever understand it.

I have been lucky enough to meet Colleen Ballinger (Miranda Sings), Rachel Ballinger, Caspar Lee, Kian Lawley and Jc Caylen. I also saw the Janoskians (ahhhh my faves) live even though the meet and greet tickets were sold out, I thought I would share my experiences.

November 14th 2014, Miranda Sings concert and meet and greet:

The concert was amazing and hilarious, I “felt all of the feels” hahaha. I met Colleen after the show, woh dressed as Miranda and posed for  pictures as Miranda also. It was ages ago but I still remember our hug and her telling me “OMG this is the best hug ever!!” I mean she probably says that to everyone but it made it such a special experience. Her sister Rachel ( also a great YouTuber) took the pictures and afterwards I asked her for a picture also because I am a huge fan of both of their channels, she was happy to do so and I got a lovely hug from her too. Both of the Ballinger sisters were amazing, polite and great huggers so I would defiantly recommend meeting them if you have the chance. If I remember correctly, the tickets weren’t too expensive either, worth the pennies!

September 3rd 2015, Janoskians Jahoo Jahaa tour show:

As I said before, I couldn’t get meet and greet tickets for this show, which I was devastated about because as I also said, I’d been a fan for years but I was still so grateful that I got to see them live. The show was hilarious full of excitement and laughter along with some great tunes. Not gonna lie, I cried when they came on stage because I was so overwhelmed and I literally lost my voice for a week after the concert. My friend had to calm me down various times during the show because I couldn’t believe that they were actually in the same room as me…. cringe but I loved it! We had tickets to sit up on the balcony but as we went into the venue, we were told that it was closed so we ran to get the best view possible, and we did have a great view. Too bad it looked crap on pictures hahaha. Overall it was an amazing night, perhaps the best night of my life. It’s just a shame that they aren’t what they used to be, I’m glad I got to see James with them.

June 2nd 2016, meeting Caspar Lee at his book signing:

I WAS SO EXCITED!! Caspar is one of my favourite ever YouTubers and so when I found out that he was coming to Gateshead, I knew I had to get tickets. I went with the same friend who I saw the Janoskians with and she was equally as excited. They really did make it personal even though you only had time for a very brief conversation. You got a copy of his book which his mam Emily signed first, she wrote your name on the book as well which was a nice personal touch that I loved. You then got it signed by Caspar who knew your name from the book. He was able to take pictures and have a conversation with everyone even though there was hundreds of people there. He was lovely and I got the best hug from him, we posed for a picture as well but the stupid lady taking the pictures didn’t take it. Not gonna lie that annoyed me a lot but I’m still so grateful that I got to meet him and got a hug, even if there is no proof of that happening. He was so lovely and it’s a moment that I’ll never forget.

June 18th 2016, Kian and Jc’s don’t try this at home tour plus meet and greet:

Me and my friend Maddie (who I’ve mentioned before in my first post) are obsessed with these two boys so when we found out they were coming here we got tickets straight away and upgraded to VIP as soon as they came out! We met them before the show and it was amazing. Me and Maddie went in together and we videoed eachother meeting them. They are just like they are in their videos, weird, funny but also really sweet guys. They made it personal by asking us our names and having a proper conversation with us. I was telling them about my birthday which they got really excited about, Jc told me to take a shot on him hahaha. They were lovely when they were giving me hugs (I got 2 hugs from each woops idec) and they were really cute and huggy. They cuddled me in like a little teddy and although I was quite shy when meeting them, they made me feel comfortable and kept me close to them, it was lovely! The show was amazing, we got to see Harrison Ford as well and a music group named Taken (who are really good, check them out!) . Again, one of the best nights of my life although I did nearly witness Jc break his neck when he didn’t land his backflip ( I got a class video of it as well!) he’s fine but I got quite scared, Maddie just laughed ahhaha. I would love to meet them again one day!

I’m uploading a new post weekly now, every Monday night if anyone cares, not that anyone actually reads this stuff hahahha.

Till next week,

Abby x
