Almost 5 months…. sorry. That’s a new record for me being lazy.

This post is gonna be completely honest so I’ll start by saying I just haven’t been feeling like blogging in a long time. I nearly gave up on writing this post multiple times.

Today marks an important day in my life, I’m free from education!

Today I sat my last exam and finished sixth form which seemed like a far fetched dream a year ago, I wasn’t sure I’d make it out alive. A-levels drained me so bad, no one gives people enough credit for getting through it.

I also passed my driving test yesterday morning after 2 previous failed attempts which I am so pleased about because I was starting to think I’d never do it.

I don’t have anything else to say, not that much has happened. I turned 18,got myself some new besties and planned some really fun summer trips before uni in September. I’m also going back into performing this summer which will be great.

I’ll keep you updated.

Should you go to University?

It’s drilled into our heads throughout our education that it is expected of us to go to university and get a degree before getting a job. It’s not until it actually comes to applying for university that you realise for yourself that actually it isn’t necessary and there is a lot more that you could be doing with your life. That then leads to the question that I think everybody asks themselves, should I go to university?

Unfortunately, I can’t answer that question for you, everyone is different and what may be right for you may be different for someone else. You have to assess your situation and discover whether or not university would be best for you. I thought that I’d share with you my process of deciding to go to university and the application process so far. Hopefully my experiences will help you when deciding what is right.

I’ve always said that I was going to go to uni, I thought I had to! Until I was 15 and finishing my GCSE’s I didn’t know that colleges, apprenticeships and internships were a legitimate thing that you could do. I’m not sure if it was the overly academic focused school that I went to or just the area that I grew up in but my education was all about getting the high grades to move on to the next stage of education. When I decided not to go to my secondary school’s sixth form and go to an independent one in the city centre, thats when I saw a new side to education. Everyone was so different, equality was celebrated and you were encouraged to achieve whatever it was that you wanted to do in life (and get the grades to achieve it obviously). It was more fun and as I’m here moping around because one of my teachers is leaving on Friday I’m realising how much I’ve enjoyed my past two years at the sixth form. That’s how education should be, fun and enjoyable. This is what inspired my decision to apply for social universities rather than the Russell group academic, high achievers universities. If you would prefer to attend these universities, go ahead and apply! As long as you work hard for it then theres nothing to stop you going but you have to look at your history with education and evaluate whether you’ll enjoy that, after all it is the next 3 or more years of your life.

I have applied for Film and Media based degrees as this is the subject that I’m most passionate about and I would love to work in social media or journalism when I graduate. I’m not too sure what specific profession I’d like to go into so don’t ask me, the main reason I’m going to uni is to give me more time to think about that. If you need more time then why not apply for a subject you love, even if you think its unlikely that you’ll get a job in that subject. I personally think that its better to have the time to think and get a degree in anything rather than have a gap in your life of not doing anything and not knowing where to go from there, I’m sure employers in the future will agree with me on that one. Of course its not impossible to get a good job without a degree but it does provide some security as most employers do look for a degree on your CV.

Actually applying for university is an extensive and stressful activity but UCAS makes it as simple as possible. Next week I will be confirming my film and insurance offers which is nerve-wracking as I haven’t fully decided yet. Everything has to be taken into account, one uni might have a good course but shocking accommodation, another may be in the most perfect town ever but have a weak course, which sacrifice do you make?

The point of this article is to ensure you that its completely normal to not know yet, everyone has doubts and indecisiveness when it comes to one of the biggest decisions of your life, of course its stressful! Looking online for people in the same situation is great therapy for this and there are so many great sources for advise such as thestudentroom.com which comes from students themselves from the past and future.

20 minute at home workout.

My first week of my transformation is over! Its been challenging and I’ve definitely not been as strict with myself as I should’ve been but thats okay, there’s always time to make a change, and that will happen this week.

One thing I have loved is an easy workout for beginners that challenges your body but isn’t overly impossible enough to make you quit halfway through. I got it from the youtube channel RawAllignment who has been a huge inspiration for me for a while now.

Here’s the workout:

-Squats (10 reps)
– Burpees with pushups (10 reps) *Modify on knees if too hard
– Good mornings (10 reps)
– Jumping jacks (10 reps)
– Lunges (10 reps each side)
– Pushups (10 reps) *Modify on knees if too hard
– Leg raises (10 reps)
– Russian twists (10 reps) *1 rep = touch floor on both sides

Beginner 1-2 sets
Intermediate 3-4 sets
Advanced 5-6 sets

Watch Alyse do it here: workout

I do this workout on a Monday afternoon, Wednesday morning, Friday morning and Saturday afternoon and I always feel great afterwards!

Let me know if you try this workout and I’ll see you again tomorrow! Also, I’m writing an article today about my experience with the application/ lead up to university on my trendingstories, read it on my profile here

Day 2: Self Love

No matter who you are or what you do you should be taking a little portion of your day to practice self-love, this is something that I’ve lacked in the past but am incorporating into my daily routines and loving so far! The title self-love sounds a tiny bit inappropriate but I can assure you it is not that.

Self love can be anything that allows you to appreciate yourself more whether that is doing something your passionate about, taking a long bath or just telling yourself in the mirror that you are worthy of happiness. I am not an expert by any means but I’m going to share with you my top self love routines, enjoy.♥

1. Tell yourself that you love yourself. Its as easy as that! When you wake up just remind yourself that you love yourself and that you are worthy of all that you want in life. This gets the subconscious going from early on in the morning and will boost your moral, leaving you significantly less depressed and exhausted in the morning. Even better, say it in the mirror and hug yourself, seems weird and pathetic I know but having that experience in the morning can really start your day off right.

2. Get moving. I’m a hypocrite for pointing this out but when people wake up nowadays, they check their phones and 2 hours later, they’re still in bed on their phones. I do it all the time as well but really as soon as you wake up try to force yourself out of bed and get your body moving. A little exercise in the mornings can get your blood pumping and you’ll feel so much more awake after it. That can just be 10 minutes of walking, a few muscle toning exercises or a few runs up and down the stairs. When I wake up I do x20 crunches, x20 push ups and x2 squats. I do three sets of this and then do x50 rises. This tones muscle without too much physical movement and helps build strength and wakes you up without you even realising, plus you feel much better after it.

3. Eat healthy food in the morning. To get your body fuelled and ready for the day, try to have some fruit in the mornings. I know when you’re rushing round trying to catch the school bus its tempting to grab a chocolate bar to eat on the go but why not wake up a little earlier and have some porridge or some weetabix. Then grab an apple or banana and your good to go. Filling your body with fruit makes your whole body function better and the benefits of having fruits is unbelievable! Find a bunch of fruits that you love and stock up next time the shopping gets done, trust me you’ll feel so much nicer fuelled by fruit.

4. Drink water. Its actually been proven that you don’t need 8 glasses of water a day and that your body will tell you when its thirsty but whats the harm in drinking water? It washes all of the nasty stuff out of your body and leaves you feeling so fresh and ready to go. I tend to only drink water unless its a special occasion and I aim to have at least 6 glasses per day. This doesn’t always happen but water definitely does make my life a whole lot easier. Its so easy to access, take a water bottle to work or school, most places have water fountains to refill. Why drink sugary, acidic drinks when water is right in front of you?

5. Go outside. This seems like an obvious thing but sometimes, especially at the weekends its easy to make a habit of becoming a hobbit and not leaving the house. Try to get outside and let the light rays hit you for at least 10 minutes a day. Go for a walk around the block, the local park or even just clean the cars. If its sunny why not do some work outside? Just a little time outside will improve your day and again, leaves you feeling refreshed and more awake.

6. Meditate. Right mindfulness and being in the present moment without distractions is pure bliss. For just 10 minutes a day, sit in silence, focus on your breaths with no distractions and feel your body in the moment. Doing this the you wake up will drop all emotions and feelings from the past and leave you in a more optimistic mood for the day, doing this before bed will leave you feeling peaceful and will send you to sleep much sooner. Why not do both and feel the benefits? If you are struggling download the app Headspace, I’m a huge fan and I’ve used it for years when I’ve struggled concentrating. Interested in meditation and buddhism? Here’s a simple introduction to Buddhism: http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/5minbud.htm and here’s a guide to meditation and extra information about its use in Buddhism: https://thebuddhistcentre.com/text/what-meditation

7. Read. So easy, take some time to read! Whether its a book or an article it does’t matter but having n active mind does matter. This can be done in a break for 15 minutes or on a bus journey. Public transport on a morning is packed with readers, join them. It’s far more beneficial than watching TV and can actually help you if you read the right stuff. Become an expert in a topic or genre, it’ll pay off.

8. Dance. My last step is to dance, be weird and let loose every once in a while. Put on some songs that you listened to as a child, put on some comfy clothes and lip sync to your hearts content. Not only is it a weak form of exercise but it boosts the spirit and lightens your day, especially after a bad day or event. Its even better with friends so if you ever have a sleepover or a night in with friends, put on some tunes (or even better, the Mamma Mia sing along film).

That’s my self love steps for you today, I’ll write another post tomorrow about easy at home workouts for beginners. Till then,

Abby x ♥

Day 1: What I ate today.

My journey of self-love, health and fitness started today and I’m really excited to share this journey with you! I thought I’d do a simple post today and tell you what I ate for my first day of healthy living!

p.s. I understand that these meals could be healthier but its day 1 so I’m taking it easy rather than delving straight in because I don’t want to get cravings and then give up like I have in the past.

10.30AM (I had a lie in, its been a busy week): Porridge, 1 sliced banana and a tbsp of cinnamon

12.30PM: 2 slices of toast with beans

3PM: a small bunch of green grapes

5PM: steamed carrots, peas, red cabbage, butternut squash, roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding with gravy.

9PM: Belvita breakfast bar

Along with this I had 5 glasses of water, which I aim to have more of tomorrow, I went for a walk (I’ll be working out tomorrow) and I meditated for 10 minutes.

Overall, pretty successful, I didn’t crack. I’ll update you tomorrow and maybe share the workout that I’ll have done then.

Till next time,

What’s really going on.

I’ve been slacking, I know. I have posted twice this year which was not my ideal but as I’ve rambled on about too many times before, there’s a lot going on in my life right now. I’m done with making excuses, I’ll be blogging from now on regularly (hold it against me if I don’t).

As I mentioned in my last post, I’m on a fitness and health journey this year and I finally have it all planned out. From tomorrow my journey will be underway, I got all my kit today and I’m so excited to begin!

I know I’ve been crap but from now on it can only go up from here.

This is an awful little post just as a heads up to expect a lot from here on now. Welcome to the start of my new blog and my new life! Follow me on social media to follow my journey!

The journey starts now.

So some of you may have noticed that I’ve taken basically a month off blogging and off this website in general. This does not mean its over, far from it. After a rocky adjustment in to this year and a lot of planning about where my life will take me this year, I’m finally ready to start this process.

This journey starts now.

I thought I’d share with you just exactly what this journey will be, so you can keep up to date if you wish.

Let’s start with the major change that will be happening in my life this year, school. At the moment I am in my final year of further education. I’ve done compulsory school (GCSE’s) and my first year of A-Levels. In June of this year I will sit this years exams, there’s only 6 in total and they are all over in a matter of 4 weeks. From June 23rd I am officially finished with this and I have my Summer period until September. In early August my family will be holidaying in Norfolk, UK, not an out of country holiday this year but a more meaningful one to celebrate my last weeks living with my family full time. We’ve been to Norfolk many a time and I’m beyond excited to show you all the fun places we go when we’re there.

In September I will be going to University. This will either be Stirling University (if I obtain BBC grades in my exams) or York St. John if I don’t. I have been lucky enough to receive 2 conditional offers and 2 unconditional from my top choice universities and I am so happy that I can start a new beginning in a new city with new people come September.

Now let’s talk about this blog and where its going. I will be aiming to post every Tuesday and Thursday. I will continue to post about beauty, lifestyle and fashion but I also want to document the changes in my life within my diet, body, health/ fitness and obviously what I’m up to. So expect every post to be a little different. Also I will be posting every Saturday on mytrendingstories.com, the link to my profile will be at the bottom of this post.

Okay so my life has already changed this year for sure and I’m so excited to continue these changes. I’ve been out more, met up and rekindled friendships with old friends who I miss oh so much and as I type this, I’m reminiscing old memories with one of my old best friends who I haven’t talked to in years. I’ve had no drama, no fall outs, no arguments and I’m happier than ever! Also, I’ll be taking my drivers test in March, so if you’d like I could write a post about the experience of learning and what I did to pass my theory/ practical when I pass it.

Lastly, I want to discuss my physical changes happening this year. I’m finally committing to it, I’m gonna do it. I’m going to buy my fitness gear and get this show on the road. I don’t necessarily want to lose massive amounts of weight but I want to be at a point where I’m happy, healthy and confident in my body. This will be done with a big shift in my diet, which will be regularly documented on this blog (along with tips and recipes) and also with exercise which I will be working hard on this year. This will also be documented on here. In terms of my appearance, I’m working on developing a skin routine to share with you guys that really works (I think I’ve got one) as I know many people, including myself, struggle with acne and would prefer to get rid of it! I also want to change my hair in the summer, asI did with the ombre last summer, and I want to be more daring with a new wardrobe.

Fancy watching these changes unfold and joining me in doing this? Follow my blog and talk to me directly through my social media!

Time for change.

Where have I been? I know, I’m sorry.

After 24 days of daily blogging in December I was exhausted and I needed some time to myself. Sharing your life on the internet is hard and coming up with original content is even harder. I spent all of last year saying ‘2017 will be my year’ and ‘I’ll post so much more and work so much harder next year’. Truth is that never really happens, it clearly isn’t happening.

I needed some time to figure things out. Its 2017 which will for sure be the scariest year of my life and I haven’t really fathomed that its here already. So much is happening and changing this year in my life and I really want to document it, so I will but if I need some time off, I’ll have to take it.

We’re 18 days into this year and its already better than last year. I’ve been for nights out, caught up with old friends and I’m taking work step by step in order to not get overly stressed like I became last year. I still want to do this and I want to develop other social media platforms as well. This is a lot easier said than done and so this could be a slow process.

I now have all the fundamentals that I need in order to do what I want to do this year, next step is to make it happen, watch this space. I’m really excited but I also need to remind you as well as remind myself that the exams that I’m taking this year decide what happens with the rest of my life, so I can’t be engrossed with this business too much.

I will be posting on Friday if not tomorrow a hopefully more entertaining and longer post. I’m thinking a summary of my year so far, the fun, the hilarious and the plans I have for the future.

Till then,

New Year New Me.. For Real

It feels like forever since I’ve blogged and I’ve actually missed it, which I was not expecting! A lot has happened, I’m going to do a what I got for christmas post and a whole lot more exciting stuff will be coming your way this year. I thought I’d start by telling you my resolutions, I’m determined to make 2017 the best one yet after such a horrible year.

First of all, I’d like to tell you my first exciting announcement, I’m now a writer for mytrendingstories.com! Find my profile here: https://mytrendingstories.com/profile/abby-waugh/ Here I’m posting about anything and everything, some blog posts will be up there as well days earlier than they will be on here so to get exclusive and early content, follow me on there thanks!

2017 will be my year, its the year I break free from routine and become the person that I want to be. I am aware that this is what everyone says at the end of each year,I do it too and yet here I am, feeling the exact same way I felt this time last year. The only good thing to come out of 2016 for me is my blog. I’ve been creating and developing that since March and I love it, its like my little baby.

This coming year I have the opportunity to do something really great with my life. I’ll be sitting my last exams in the summer and finishing sixth form. That means that I’ll have an extra long summer to do everything that I could possibly imagine before I go to University. University means a fresh start in a new city, which is extremely exciting seen as I’ve been stuck in the same city for my entire life and although I love it here in Newcastle, I’ve not set my life up very well here and now I can’t escape it. I also turn 18 this year and move out of my family home, that gives me insane freedom that I’ve not had before which will be scary but I am prepared to make the most of it, and document each step of the way on my blog and on this website.

I am so grateful that mytrendingstories reached out to me and invited me to write on here, its teaching me new tricks to develop all of my social media platforms which I am very much enjoying learning how to do seen as I am not a professional and have had to teach myself all the tricks of the trade.

In 2017 I will be putting myself of a diet which will give me energy, cutting out the junk and replacing it with foods that will fuel my body and energise my days. I will be increasing my water intake and also trying various protein and vitamin supplements as I am a vegetarian and have struggled to keep my body healthy on this diet. I will be trying and sharing with you new recipies that I will be learning, I’ll need them as I’m moving out soon!

Exercise will be a part of my routine more often as I am super unfit. I used to be a dancer so I never really needed further exercise but since stopping that I’ve seen drastic body changes and now I am the most unfit person you can imagine.

I also want to be more social which sounds a bit pathetic but these past few years I’ve seen lots of great friendships come and then go again, leaving me lonely and confused. As I’m a very shy person I want to talk to more people and make new friendships as I feel that this may bring me out of my shell and make me a happier person in general, its not nice staying silent and to yourself all day.

I want to pass my drivers test early this year, definitely at least take a practical test by early March, this way in the summer I can travel more and not have to take public transport everywhere. I want to save up my money and start from now to build up a good wardrobe for myself in preparation for uni. I’ve been wearing the same clothes for years and its because I’m really not comfortable with my body and shopping for my body. Hopefully with the dieting and exercise I’ll become a more confident person and be able to shop for decent clothes and accessories.

I’d like to improve my makeup and hair skills this year, I love makeup especially and would love to be more experimental with it, trying new looks and maybe doing tutorials if they turn out okay? I want to do something drastic with my hair also, maybe cut it different or dye it a different colour, I’m so bored of being the same.

I’m going to take more pictures this year, more videos and create new memories that I can share with my audience online and also keep for myself in the future. This is something I tried in 2016 and had lots of fun doing. With better technology this year I can do this again with more quality.

These are my resolutions for 2017, and I’m more than determined to complete them, I won’t let myself have another year like this one for the good of my mental health. I hope you can join me on my journey, we can do it together! If you have any new years resolutions feel free to comment them, because I’m nosey and like to see what other people want to change in the new years, thanks for reading.

My Christmas Eve.

Well this is it, the final day of blogmas! I DID IT!! It has most certainly been an eye opener for me, there have been days where I didn’t want to post at all and when I had just completely forgot until late at night but nevertheless I still completed it.. I’m satisfied. It taught me most importantly that blogging daily is harder than it sounds and I’m glad I learned that before I committed to anything.

December has seen me through some great times but mostly bad times, it’s been a crappy month for me really but it can only go up from here on. I’m ready to not feel shitty again.

Here’s how I spent my Christmas eve:

First off, I had a lie in, always great as I don’t get a lot of them. When I woke up I chilled on my phone for a long while, got up, ate and got dressed. I then traveled to my Nanna and Grandad’s house with my mam and brother to pop in before tomorrow and give them gifts. We stayed and chatted for about an hour before hitting the road again to see my Aunty and Uncle to do the same thing. We watched the first Harry Potter together and caught up as we hadn’t seen each other in a good few months. Then once again we hit the road to pick up my sister from panto in Whitley Bay. Yes, she’s in it. I used to be in them as well but I gave that up to focus on school (stupid decision, I miss it). Then we came home and ate tea.

We then all got washed (not together obviously) and came out the bathroom to find that the christmas fairy had done her thing once again and delivered us christmas PJs. Yes, my mam still gets a kick out of that tradition 17 years later. We then had a family storytime which we do every year when we read ‘the night before christmas’, its pretty cute I know. Now the young ones are in bed and I’m getting ready to snuggle up and watch a christmas film before the big day!

I just want to say a massive thanks to anyone who pressed follow on my blog this year. I’ve been doing this since March and although I’ve not been very reliable, I’ve loved every second of it. And now that I’m used to the site and I know how it all works I can produce bigger and better things in 2017, BRING IT ON!

If you happen to be reading this then I wish you the happiest of Christmases and lots of festivities. Have a wonderful new year and I hope Santies’ good to you!

P.S. expect a new years post on Saturday 31st, the last day of the year, WHAT!?!?!?
